Hello guys, to begin this interview, can you write a short biography of the band ?
Greetings Doctor,Machetazo was born in 1994, tons of releases and weird
stories since then, anyone interested go to our website and take a look to
our biography.
You are preparing a new CD, what can you say about it ?
The new CD is about the Amando De Ossorio "Blind Dead" filmography, horror
tales about templar
mummies that return to life eyeless and thirst for virgin's blood. We will
record 15 new songs around this main theme,an album fueled by the same
feeling of those blind dead movies : darkness, phobia,
pavor... The recording sessions start on October 31th again in Treboada
studio with Paco "Maggot" Liaño,we will look again for an extreme and raw
production,no triggers,no computer cheap tricks.
The artwork is being prepared right now by our good friend Nor Prego as
usual in any Machetazo album,it will be somekind of tribute to the old movie
posters of Amando De Ossorio.
What do you think about Razor Back Records ? Why ?
Razorback records are our family, cos' they take care of us and always do
the best for the band.
Billy Nocera is a very important part in the Machetazo underworld and
philosophy, we have the same points of view about many important things in
the current grind/death scene, we have the same goals, we look for the same
essence, we don't play the fool and we know what we want.
What are you waiting for a label ?
To be honest, the only thing Razorback records lack off is about tour
support, but I understand them cos' it's not a so big label (as many wrong
people think) and I know they haven't got financial support enough to plan
tours for the Hive bands. The Razorback records bands are not very popular
bands, they're only for true freaks and underground diehard fans, a kind of
old school breed not for trendy ears or mass media, so nobody gets any money
with this really.
How do you do the promotion of Machetazo ?
We are always releasing eps in different labels and that's a very good way
of underground promotion besides releasing albumes, also our website helps a
lot and of course we continue with our massive record-trading
contacts, spreading flyers, etc. We carry the distro of lots of our
releases, we enjoy a lot doing that and it's very good way to know bands and
labels from every corner of this doomed planet.
Can you talk about the Spanish scene ? Are there many zines or labels to
promote the bands ?
There are a few good bands but they are all old bands, it has been a long
time without hearing something new interesting enough, now the grinders try
to imitate Nasum or Pig Destroyer, nobody cares about Carcass, Autopsy or
Repulsion. Things have changed a lot and I don't feel identified with the
spanish scene.
I don't know any printed zine into grindcore right now in Spain, and the only
labels who support this style are Throne records and the new one Living Dead
Society.
Is it hard to find some dates to play ?
If you enjoy playing shows in dirty squatters, losing money, patience and
health, you can play very often around the motherfuckin HC/punk scene, but if
you wanna play in good places the oportunnities are just a few. We don't
play so much shows cos' of this.
Did you ever play in France ? What do you think about our scene ? What is
your favourite French band ? What can you say about French scene ?...
No,we never played in France but hope to do it sooner or later. My fave
French band is Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, and I'm very curious to hear
Funeralium, gotta pick up their demo tape soon.
Do some members of the band have a side project ?
Yeah,we have a few side projects but they are resting right now,we're
always concentrate in Machetazo, and when it leaves some free time (not very
often) we like to record some demos with friends. I recorded some tracks
with Uge (Throne recs) under the name of Worship The Sun, total doom metal
oriented. Rober has another project into doom metal, can't remember the name
right now... and Carlos Cadaver has some songs in mind into extreme
technical brutal death metal in a project named From The Crypts. ..
Do you have some future project for the band ?
The future plans are recording the new album and also two tracks for a
split 7" with Cianide (USA),
after the record release we'll play some shows around Spain, there are
another show plans but it's soon to say anything sure.
That’s all, thanks for having time to reply this interview… You can
write some words to conclude..
Thanx to you Dr Gore, your website looks amazing, all the best luck keeping
the support to the underground ! General Surgery/Machetazo split 7" out
